Every piece in this shop came off a loom or a wheel that belongs to someone. Where the maker is willing to be named, we name them.
Peshawar
A lapidary of forty years, cutting Pakistani rough — peridot from Kohistan, aquamarine from Shigar, pink topaz from Katlang. He states every treatment, including none, because a stone sold with an undisclosed fill comes back.

Swat Valley
Shazia leads a workshop of six weavers in upper Swat producing flatweave kilims in undyed and madder-dyed wool. Her geometric field patterns are Swati, but the restrained palette is her own: three colours to a piece, rarely more.

Bhakkar, Punjab
Ghulam Rasool has worked a horizontal loom for thirty-one years, and learned it from his father, who learned it in Bokhara before partition. He works in wool on a cotton warp, at densities between 240 and 320 knots per square inch, and signs nothing — the selvedge finish is how the trade recognises his pieces.
